Northern California Pirate Festival

When: June 20-21, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. 2009
Price: free

Pirates have gotten a bit of a bad rap lately, but that's not stopping the folks behind the Nor Cal Pirate Festival. Founded in 2007 by a group of self-described pirate enthusiasts and run entirely by volunteers, the festival drew upwards of 30,000 in each of its first two years. This year's event shouldn't disappoint, with a full four acres of vendors, entertainment, and other swashbuckling, swordfighting fun -- including treasure hunts, cannon demonstrations, magic acts, ventriloquists, plenty of kid-oriented activities, and more pirate musical acts than you ever knew existed. Costumes highly encouraged. Saturday and Sunday, June 20 (10 a.m.-dusk) and 21 (10 a.m.-6 p.m.), at the Vallejo Waterfront (near Ferry Terminal). Free.
