Driving down the bumpy road to Nobilis Restaurant at Point San Pablo Harbor in Richmond, you might think you’ve taken a wrong turn. But once you arrive, you’re greeted by a vintage diner in a serene waterfront setting. Nobilis calls itself “a finer diner,” and chef Stevie Neal serves up lovingly prepared food made with top-quality local ingredients. “I cook everything like I’m cooking for my mom,” Neal says. For lunch, try the oyster “po-bolt,” a sandwich on an Acme roll with housemade aioli, crisp bacon, butter lettuce, pickled red onions and cucumbers, and fried oysters. The “har-burger,” a burger made with 80 percent brisket and 20 percent sirloin, is juicy and flavorful. Or try the clam chowder, a lighter take on a chowder flavored with fennel. For weekend brunch, don’t miss the Benedict. End the meal with a slice of pie from Melodie Smith of Melodie’s Southern Desserts.
