Comedy, Drama
Eli Michaelson (Alan Rickman) is an insufferable scientist/asshole who has just won the Nobel Prize when Nobel Son kicks off, but he manages to get kidnapped just before he and his wife Sarah (Mary Steenburgen) and son Barkley (Bryan Greenberg) head off to Stockholm to collect his award. What follows is a movie chock-full of character traits (like Danny DeVito as the OCD neighbor) as opposed to actual characters, each navigating a smug script more in love with the intricacies of its preposterous storyline than, duh, characters. Remember those bad Tarantino knock-offs that flooded the market in the '90s like 2 Days in the Valley and Things to Do in Denver When You're Dead? Well Nobel Son barely survives the comparisons (102 min.).
