A New York star restaurant chef (Catherine Zeta-Jones) learns valuable life lessons and falls in love in this tame but comfy romantic comedy (a remake of the German film Mostly Martha), in which both her newly orphaned eleven-year-old live-in niece (Abigail Breslin, mopier than in Little Miss Sunshine) and her free-spirited new sous-chef (Aaron Eckhart) conspire to take some of the starch out of the executive apron. As light-hearted food-fetish movies go, put it somewhere between Tortilla Soup and Tampopo. Directed with a sweet touch by Scott Hicks (Shine, Snow Falling on Cedars) from a screenplay by Carol Fuchs and Sandra Nettleback.
