It does matter how much the teacher expects from the students. But hello! They made it clear that that is not enough to get Shaker Heights's African American students -not all African Americans, just the ones in Shaker Heights- to do their work and succeed. It also takes effort AT home on behalf of the student's GUARDIANS or PARENTS. So yeah, it takes two to tango. Sorry, but they are your kids, your responsibility, as the Japanese say. Both the teacher AND the parent of the African American student need to follow through.
