Nitro Trail Race

When: Sat., June 4, 8:25 a.m. 2011
Price: $39-$55

If you've never been to Point Pinole Regional Park (5551 Giant Highway, Pinole), you're missing out. The 2,300-acre peninsular park has an interesting history as the home of a massive gunpowder-manufacturing operation, but that's only the beginning. It's wooded with beautiful (if non-native) eucalyptus, laced with narrow hiking and jogging trails, and ringed with protected marshlands and a rocky beach offering waterfront access. Plus it's got views for days, from MountTamalpais to MountSt. Helena. Take it all in while running 3.1, 6.2, or 13.1 miles through the park as part of Brazen Racing's Nitro Trail race on Saturday, June 4. All finishers receive medals and T-shirts, but the scenery and fresh air alone are worth the trip. 8:25 a.m., $39-$55. BrazenRacing.com
