Action/Adventure, Family
There are a lot worse things to be than a fun, effective children's movie. Nim's Island is just that, even if it's hard to imagine anyone other than grade-school girls and a few patient parents buying tickets. Abigail Breslin plays 11-year-old Nim, who resides on a remote South Pacific island with her scientist father. When he goes missing and cruise-ship developers show up to spoil Nim's paradise, she turns for help to the author of her favorite adventure books, Alex Rover (Jodie Foster), who, despite intense neurosis, comes to her aid all the way from San Francisco. Foster as comic relief is reason enough to show up (95 min.).
