Blank Square at Eli's Mile High Club

San Francisco’s Blank Square is a crazy, dissonant, noisy, art-rock band that lands somewhere between Pere Ubu’s weirder discography and the infamous No Wave scene from early ’80s New York. Or, as the band describes it: “Like walking on gravel with no shoes.” The music contains a lot of unhinged energy. So, if you are a moshing-punk fanatic, you can certainly get charged up in the pit. But for fans of atypical chords and scales that like a little avant-garde in their punk, this could very well be your new favorite band. The addition of saxophone to the otherwise-rock ’n’ roll instrumentation adds a dimension of David Lynchian absurdity.
