Re: “Letters for the week of October 15, 2014

The information in the letters from Jennfer Berg and Leila Moncharsh about Jill Broadhurst do not surprise me. In addition to Broadhurst's misteps in those areas, she is also leading voters to believe she is endorsed by the Democratic Party, but this is simply not true. In her opposition to Measure Z, Broadhurst characterizes it as a band aid and claims more is needed. Well guys, Broadhurst is Chair of the Montclair NCPC which is attempting to raise 60K for a mural!!!! Oakland has high rates of crime and fire and earthquake safety risk factors. It is an incredible lack of leadership and good judgement on her part to pursue a 60K mural. That money could have been used to help fund a new Police Officer position for Oakland or even Montclair; it could have been used to renew and improve the expiring Wildfire Prevention District; or it could have been used for many other worthy safety innitiatives. The only thing consistent about Broadhurst is her lack of good judgement.

Re: “Vote Libby Schaaf for Mayor of Oakland

I do not agree with Hobart Johnson's statements about Libby performance in District 4. I've worked with Libby over the years as a volunteer in many different capacities. In my opinion, Libby is a very hardworker and has done a good job as our Councilmember. Libby listens to what her constituents tell her, considers viewpoints even if she does not agree with them, and is respectful to everyone. I like those qualities very much. If she were running for re-election to District 4, I would have supported and voted for her. She will be one of my three choices for Mayor.

Re: “Vote Libby Schaaf for Mayor of Oakland

Max - One minor change to the first sentence of what I wrote below. It should read as, "It is inaccurate to claim that Jean Quan has not contributed to the resurgence of Oakland." The rest stays the same. Sorry for the double negative.

Re: “Vote Libby Schaaf for Mayor of Oakland

Max - It is inaccurate to dismiss that Jean Quan has not contributed to the resurgence of Oakland. I'll give you some simple evidence to support my opinion via Quan's endorsements: (a) The current SF Mayor and a former SF Mayor; (b) Six Oakland Port Commissioners; (c) Four Planning Commissioners; (d) influential members of the business community; and (e) many well known community organizations, leaders and advocates for a variety of causes to promote economic and civic betterment. This cross section of supporters are in consensus about Quan's leadership role in the resurgence of Oakland.

Re: “In Oakland School Board Races, A Crowded Field of Newcomers

The District 4 race is a tough one for me. I'm unable to decide between two of the candidates that I think are the best ones: Ninna Senn and Karl Debro. They are both very good choices.

Re: “Vote Libby Schaaf for Mayor of Oakland

Over the years there have been many polls saying Jean Quan would not win this and that election and most of those polls were wrong. Jean has several qualities that I admire: she is persistent and does not give up, she is devoted to Oakland and to concepts of social equity, and she is a hard worker for Oakland 24/7. The problems in Oakland are very complex. Oakland has turned around in the right direction while she has been our Mayor. Jean has attracted the hardest working and most contributing neighborhood advocates throughout the city and they have helped turn around Oakland block by block. That is a significant leadership attribute that she brought to the Mayor' Office from her many years of experience. Volunteerism and everyone is welcome - That's the way it should be. I hope you vote for Jean to continue this forward movement.
