Comedy, Romance
If you couldn’t get enough of Paris je t’aime and always hoped someone would make a dumbed-down version of that multi-actor, multi-filmmaker omnibus for New York City, knock yourself out. However, if you’re the type who insists on developed characters and plausibility, and who harbors the notion that the city may consist of more than Manhattan, this creampuff seems to go on forever. Conceptualized by French producer Emmanuel Benbihy and directed by some eleven filmmakers as a string of interlocking scanty narratives, it’s a wretched mishmash of clichés and lazy scene-setting starring a “galaxy” of actors with nothing better to do: Robin Wright Penn, Shia LaBeouf, Natalie Portman, Bradley Cooper, Orlando Bloom, Christina Ricci, Olivia Thirlby, et al. (110 min.).
