New Sutras Official Release Party

When: Fri., Jan. 17, 7 p.m. 2020
Founding editor and former editor-in-chief of San Francisco Museum of Modern Art’s hybrid art and language platform Open Space, and writer/performer of The Kim Game and the just-released DO YOUR OWN DAMN LAUNDRY (Gauss PDF), Suzanne Stein raises the bar by also releasing a book of poetry, New Sutras. Poetry and art collide and collude in this epic poem modified for the social media age. Written via Twitter over the course of 2008-2016 — corresponding with the presidency of Barack Obama, as well as Stein’s employment at the SFMOMA — this 80-page poem charts a line of flight from institutional torpor dictated by overwork, media saturation, and a city at the heart of economic crisis. Stein is reading with Camille Roy and DROUGHT SPA.
