Netsuke, Japanese carvings used as fasteners for personal accessories, have enchanted artists, owners, collectors, and viewers for centuries. Beautiful and comical, surreal or mythological, they are practical objects transformed into symbols and stories, and representative of the people who have made and possessed them. Come explore some of those stories through examples currently on display at the Phoebe A. Hearst Museum of Anthropology.
