Documentary maker Nicolas Philibert asks us to spend an hour inside the primate house of Paris’ Jardin des Plantes, getting to know the eponymous forty-year-old orangutan, the zoo’s star attraction. And she’s a bundle of enigmas. As Nénette quietly sips her afternoon tea and yogurt, we and her keepers muse on reports of orangutans’ violent behavior in the wild (she came from Borneo as a baby) and the eternal question: What could she be thinking? We never find out, which may be why this slight doc is so charming. Or could it be her flaming red hair? (68 min.)
