Nellie Ozen -- Miss Nellie to you -- and her daughter Quinette lure folks out to the warehouse district of West Oakland with the promise of fried chicken and a gospel-filled jukebox, both of which make their guests break out in song. Skip the pork chops, steak, and sandwiches and stick with lovingly rendered Southern classics. If you get there early enough, order one of the daily specials, like oxtail, short ribs, or smothered chicken, because they sell out by the middle of the evening. All the entrées earn you the right to three sides, and three is never enough.
