Re: “Burners Torched Over Native Party

You say the natives choose a target that was Easy, Progressive, part of the change, Well intended, and surely did not mean to harm Native Culture. All parts of that statement are true in degrees and neglect the fact that when I (one of the petition writers, natives and a Burner) choose to begin dialogue with these people we were threatened as well.

The people we talked to choose to attack us right back, they have given is a paltry of names of Natives, and A.I.M members are seriously scolding those individuals, proving that beyond any doubt the event was not sanctioned by Native Peoples at Large. Yeah thats right.

As a quarter blood Native I am white washed. I do share my culture with my children. I do not snide at the half bloods, eighth bloods, 1/126th bloods in my culture. They need only to know the stories the history of their people, and practice that way of life to be native. Im tired of all these people claiming to be part Native and then not have a God Damn clue about their history. Nativeness is not in a blood quantum. That is an American Created notion, a systematic method of genocide that haunts us today.

So if your surprised at Native, its because you dont understand that this kind of thing happens all over the country everyday, and today it was a group of Burners. Did we overreact? Yes and No. Did we attack an easy target that believes they are being culturally progressive? yes and No. The people we dealt with DO NOT encompass the Burning Culture that Larry Harvey and John Law created 20-some odd years ago. THese Kids are neo-hippies doing there own thing under a big umbrella that means less and less.

You say we are bigoted because we push you away from our culture, we are protecting it from getting robbed from us, just like what happened. TO be native is not just to walk into our lives grab what you like and put it on your walls to display. It is a way of life, that you can never have. So you appropriate, which is wrong.

I am Native American, A Burner and I am offended by bystanders like you who didnt grow up with a shoe in both camps ,and dont understand the full complexity of this situation.

I stand by my people, and I stand by the Burners I know personally. Going to a desert party, does not give you a Peace Badge of progressive thought, that takes a lifetime to attain. and If you think you already earned that, then you Have MUCH confusion in your mind and heart.

If you want to package our culture and have FUN buying it, selling it, learning it, then you have no idea what it means to LEARN our ways. This chide bullshit you write about not helping understand us is just reverse racial paternalism and its Bull Shit.

IF you have great guilt over the rape of our land, that only means your awake, not that your helping. Im not MAD, because there is NO TRUTH in your words. I am frustrated that we deserve respect and dignity to practice our culture and we get none of it.

May the Creator be with you always, may we come to call each other brothers and sisters and experience the love of Family between us. Until then walk with good intentions
