Re: “Opinion: Why We, As Black Oaklanders, Are Voting for Libby Schaaf

Seems like this editorial commentary, oughtn't to be mixed in with news articles.

Re: “Our November 2018 Election Endorsement Cheat Sheet

Too bad you failed to endorse Jovanka Beckles, the environmentally-endorsed, union-supporting, public education-advocating, public-health-knowledgeable candidate for Assembly District 15.

Re: “Peralta's Problems

Notable for me is the lack of transparency. Even after multiple public records requests, the District did not respond to requests for some of the info around the A's negotiation. I certainly hope for close attention to the Peralta Board.

Re: “Schaaf Has 20-Point Lead in New Poll, But Is Still Well Short of a Majority

Because it was a Chamber of Commerce poll, it did not ask about whether respondents want housing that non-wealthy people could afford, housing for people currently unsheltered, or housing for people on higher incomes.

Re: “Opinion: Prioritizing People in Our Housing Policies

Looks like the real estate interests disagree. But does it help your property value to have huge numbers of unhoused people? Does it enhance tourism to explain to visitors about tent cities? Housing everyone will help Oakland thrive economically. Support a proactive policy to use some of our publicly-owned parcels for subsidized housing. In the process, we'd save money on health costs, social services, public works, police enforcement, the expensive but inefficient "tuffsheds," and protect our public assets. The trickle-down theory of apartment construction is a lie. Yes, we do need more housing, AND we need more housing for those with little to no income. Both things true at once.

Re: “Role Reversals in the Oakland Mayor's Race

Unfortunate that Mayor Schaaf adopted a slogan reminiscent of "Tough as Texas"--Ted Cruz.
