Re: “Eviction Protections Could Be Extended to Thousands More Oakland Homes Through Proposed Ballot Measure

For the duration of the confusion that is the Oakland city website migration, I suggest that EBExpress articles include a link to relevant agendas. Right now, people may be stymied searching for things such as this item on Tuesday's CED committee agenda. Agenda with report links at no. 6 and 7 as

Re: “Oakland Council Ignores Warning from City Administrator and Votes for 'Strong' Police Commission Ordinance

I was on a charter revision committee after Jerry Brown passed Measure X for a stronger mayoral role. It was weirdly written, had some provisions that didn't work, and so we put revisions on the ballot . I didn't agree with everything the comittee did, but the principle was solid, that we needed a charter revisions revision, and so we created one and it passed. If this situation creates unworkable provisions or difficulties with the charter, then create a charter review committee and fix it. Not that much of an obstacle, has been done before.

Re: “Judge Rules in Favor of Oakland Coal Project

Mr. Tagami and his cronies (two former exec. port directors) are not obligated to ship coal. Let better judgment prevail. Bowie Coal doesn't have a good prognosis, and our children won't have a future either, if Bowie and the other fossil fuels companies continue to put short-term profit before longterm planet.

Re: “In the 15th Assembly District, Six Candidates Appear to Have a Shot at the Top Two Spots

Support Beckles or Kalb. Or Appel or Pardue-Okimoto or Bartlett. No need to vote for someone with zero elected experience, who just parachuted in with outsider money, who has never yet been spotted at any community event, march, political meeting, workshop, discussion, or government hearing, the candidate of the most cautious and most compromised part of the democratic party.

Re: “Second 'Tuff Shed' Homeless Camp Opens in Oakland, but Some Criticize Closure of the Surrounding Encampment

(Okay, trying again. If this comment is redundant please excuse, feel free to remove one, as something happened.)
The Oakland City Council must stop selling off public land to balance its budget, while whistling past the homeless encampments. We have land and Alameda County has at least the two huge buildings on lower Broadway, not far from extant encampments, which stand empty or mostly empty. No one adds up our costs of public health, medical emergency calls, fire, police, public works services, bad press, and human misery, because they are in different silos. But it would be far cheaper to house people decently and provide services than to continue with the present situation. AND WE HAVE LAND AND BUILDINGS! What is lacking is willpower. We must demand that our elected officials work together and get some results. Moving people around (or "out") does not solve the problem, and we are about to get a lot of new inhabitants pushed out of SF.
