Action/Adventure, Family, Suspense/Thriller
Nancy Drew is the perfect family movie for tweens, but don't expect the big-screen misadventures of a sleuthing teenager to impress most anyone else. Director Andrew Fleming embraces camp rather than try to wholly modernize a literary heroine more than seven decades old, but, in the process, fails to use the discordance to offer up pop-culture commentary in the style of, say, Clueless or The Brady Bunch Movie. The result is something that plays out like a Nickelodeon movie, with Nancy (a girl who loves "old-fashioned things") traveling to superficial Los Angeles to solve a mystery in a violent, shallower world that she seems oblivious to.
