NABA: Need A Better Acronym (Hiking Boots, Too)

Little yellow fliers appeared this week on the doorsteps of some East Bay residents advertising "OBBIOPPIROR." Egads! That stands for "The Oakland-to-Berkeley, Bring It On, Parade of People for Impeachment and the Restoration of Our Rights" (all emphases theirs). A perhaps more apt title: "Seven Miles of Bush Bashing!"

It's unclear who's organizing this thing, but "this thing" is a workout-length protest march slated for next Saturday morning. People can strut from the Grand Lake Theater through Piedmont and Berkeley's Elmwood district to end up at Berkeley BART, all the while chanting things like "2-4-6-8, what should we disintegrate? The White House! The Republicans, yeaaaaaaaay!"

Organizers are especially, ahem, up in arms over "passage of the Military Commissions Act of 2006: gutting the bill of rights, eliminating habeas corpus and codifying torture as a legal interrogation technique." Fair 'nuff. Protesters are asked to meet at the theater at 9:15 a.m. As for the likelihood they will "be a part driving out the Bush Regime now!" Well, that sounds like yet another unrealistic campaign promise.
