Mykki Blanco

When: Thu., June 27, 9 p.m. 2013
Price: $12, $15
Mykki Blanco has cultivated one of the most extreme personas in hip-hop — and the flow to match. A self-described “acid punk rapper,” Blanco could be hip-hop’s answer to Aphex Twin in the way she’s morphed and mutated everything from her gender to her sound: She’s a club kid who raps, as well as a confident performance artist who manages to be vulnerable, self-deprecating, and funny. On her latest EP, Betty Rubble: The Initiation, Blanco spits rhymes about fucking the DJ, dosing on molly and mushrooms, and is backed by a disorienting flurry of trip-hop beats, sharp synths, and dirty bass. If Blanco’s set at Mezzanine (444 Jessie St., San Francisco) is as wild as the world she inhabits in her raps, a lot of us will be calling in sick on Friday. With Matrixxman, Vin Sol, and Stay Gold DJs.
