The early life of actor George Hamilton gets the fictionalized, made-for-TV-looking shpritz in this candy bomb by writer Charlie Peters and director Richard Loncraine. Leading the parade is Renee Zellweger as young George’s (Logan Lerman) mother, a dingbat Southern belle who leaves her bandleader husband and takes off with her two sons across America. The comic romantic situations they get into are only matched by Peters’ cutesy, anachronistic dialogue — middle-class Americans did not say “What the fuck” on a date in the 1950s. Kevin Bacon costars as the ex-hubby. An embarrassment (108 min.).
