Screenwriters Sandro Petraglia and Stefano Rulli (The Best of Youth) and director Daniele Luchetti combine for another nostalgic family story -– this time the eventful lives of a pair of provincial working-class Italian brothers, one of whom joins the communist party (Riccardo Scamarcio), the other the fascists (Elio Germano). The fact that they love the same woman (Diane Fleri) complicates matters further. Doesn’t have a heavy epic feel, but adds up to a moving portrait of political upheaval made personal (108 min.).
