Mural Project Fundraiser

When: Thu., July 1, 6 p.m. 2010

Community art and sustainable food have found common ground in North Berkeley, where a group of artists and organizers are creating a massive mural celebrating sustainable agriculture and the slow-food movement on the south-facing wall of Virginia Bakery (1690 Shattuck Ave., Berkeley). The mural, titled ÒGrowing Connections,Ó was developed with the help of students from King Middle School, and organizers invite anyone from the community to come by and help paint, every Monday through Friday from 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Although work is already well underway, organizers say theyÕre thousands of dollars shy of what they need to finish the painting. To that end, a fundraiser is planned for 6 p.m. on Thursday, July 1, at ACCI Gallery (1652 Shattuck Ave., Berkeley), featuring a speaker, silent auction, and raffle. GrowingConnectionsMural.com
