Price: $15

Dance is euphoric -- even narcotic -- and so are structured dance classes, as long as you abstain from Balanchine or the rigors of Jazzercise. The folks at Destiny Arts Center (1000 42nd St., Oakland) keep that in mind when devising their programs, which demonstrate mastery and technique without sacrificing the pleasure principle. This Saturday, Jan. 23, the center will hold a day-long fund-raiser with workshops and master classes in a variety of genres, including yoga, hula, salsa, martial arts, hip-hop, and kickboxing. Guest choreographers Corey Action (of NewstyleMotherlode) and Judy Smith (of Axis Dance Company) will lead special sessions, as will local body music guru Keith Terry. It's a not-to-miss opportunity, even for first-time dabblers or folks who treat dance as a solely callisthenic activity. Proceeds will help Destiny Arts in its goal to move to a larger facility by June 2010. The Move-a-thon runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. for youth and from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. for all ages. $12-$15.
