.Most Underrated Food City

Alameda

Oakland deserves all the press it gets as America’s next great food destination, but the city’s easterly neighbor, Alameda, doesn’t get nearly the attention it should among Bay Area foodies. Sure, the island city isn’t a good place to go looking for trendy, Michelin-star-chasing eateries. But, block for block, the Park Street corridor matches up well with just about any neighborhood in the East Bay in terms of both the quality and diversity of food. Want souped-up East Coast comfort food? Try Scolari’s Good Eats. Creative gastropub fare? Head over to American Oak. Wood-fired pizza? East End Pizza Co. is tough to beat. Southeast Asian food? Check out any of the three or four great options that are within a two-minute walk of each other. Meanwhile, don’t miss Webster Street, on the other side of town, where among other deliciousness you’ll find kickass pan-African fare (Soleil’s African Cuisine) and the best dim sum in the East Bay (East Ocean Seafood Restaurant).
