Most Happening Gallery: Hippest enclave of outcasts and misfits

Ghost Town Gallery

Since starting out as a crash pad for some of the more terminally hip denizens of the Bay Area, the Ghost Town Gallery, formerly known as the WC, has become the go-to spot for what’s cutting-edge or beyond. Through its all-ages shows, movie nights, and parties, this West Oakland underground venue and art space has quietly emerged as an institution for poets, writers, and musicians. With two performance spaces, two lounges, and countless labyrinthine stairs and hallways, Ghost Town can accommodate two seemingly incongruent events and make them merge somewhere in the middle. Having hosted guests from Blue Cheer to Prozack Turner, the Black Futurist Movement to the Black Angels, there’s always a promise that something unique and unexpected will occur.
