Rated PG-13 · 2011

Cornball but media-savvy. Predictable yet encouragingly actor-friendly. Roger (Notting Hill) Michell’s career-girl sitcom wants to be everything to all audiences. It sets TV producer Rachel McAdams in violent, grinning motion as she tries to pull a network’s dying morning show out of the grave while jousting with Harrison Ford’s grumpy veteran anchor. He hates fluff, she needs it to save all their jobs, and so on. Much more fun than those two are Diane Keaton as the quintessential happy-talk morning host, and Jeff Goldblum as McAdams’ dour boss. The writing, by Aline Brosh McKenna of The Devil Wears Prada, is a classic example of “fake-topical.” (107 min.)
