More on Zaytuna College

We'd be awfully remiss if we didn't mention that the Express has given Zaytuna College, whose founders to make the first accredited Islamic liberal arts college in America, the full feature treatment already. This piece by Don Lattin goes into detail about the founders' plans, although since it was pubbed in 2009, the "Ground Zero Mosque" crap obviously wasn't at play back then.

Now, it's a different story. Here, for example, is a piece on the college by Reza Aslan over at The Daily Beast. And here's a transcript of an MSNBC interview with Zaytuna College do-founder Hamza Yusuf Hanson over the weekend, in which he discusses the climate of fear and hostility that serves as the subtext to the mosque controversy. (Be warned: this comes courtesy of Newsbusters, which is the web arm of the gnarly right-wing Media Research Center, so don't be surprised to sense a certain hostile undertone in the presentation.)

And it turns out that Hanson, an Irish-American who converted to Islam and has since become a prominent Muslim scholar, has his own file in Discover The Networks, a McCarthyist blacklist of the "political left" run by ex-Berkeley-lefty-cum-right-wing-hysteric David Horowitz.

And, of course, here's the web site for Zaytuna College itself.
