Moonlight and Magnolias

When: Thursdays-Saturdays, 8 p.m. and Sundays, 2 & 7 p.m. Continues through March 15 2008
Price: $19-$32

Frankly, my dears, if you give a damn how Margaret Mitchell's Civil War novel Gone with the Wind became the epic motion picture it's primarily known as today, then Moonlight and Magnolias may be the play for you. In Ron Hutchinson's comedy, producer David O. Selznick has halted filming to lock himself in his office with director Victor Fleming and screenwriter Ben Hecht for five days straight to rework a flick that just wasn't working from the ground up. The popular 2004 play had a major production at San Jose Rep a little over a year ago and is currently playing up at SonomaCountyRep, but directing it is a labor of love for Town Hall artistic director Kevin T. Morales, who also happens to be Fleming's grandnephew. February 9 through March 15 at Town Hall Theatre (3535 School St., Lafayette) or 925-283-1557.
