SciFi/Fantasy, Suspense/Thriller
Astronaut Sam Bell (played by Sam Rockwell), serving a three-year hitch harvesting helium on the moon with his GERTY 3000 Robotic Assist, is already stir-crazy as the film opens, and things deteriorate from there. The resulting one-man doppelganger drama should sorely test anyone’s Rockwell endurance. Is Sam himself an android who doesn’t realize it? How many Sam Rockwells are enough? These and other questions take up most of the time in director Duncan Jones’ ultimately defeating sci-fi number, with a screenplay by Nathan Parker from a story by Jones (né Zowie Bowie, son of David) (97 min.).
