Comedy, Romance
This light comedy is being marketed to teenage girls, but it's comparable to Woody Allen's recent European-set features Vicky Cristina Barcelona and Midnight in Paris. Like those movies, it's a materialist fantasy of the continent, in which a young woman from Texas is mistaken for an heiress and, along with her blue-collar best friend and bookish step-sister, whisked into a world of luxury. Yet the movie hits a surprising range of emotional grace notes, including several moments of genuine regret, and concludes with an understated moral lesson about the value of self-respect over social status, something that would never happen in an Allen film. Thomas Bezucha (The Family Stone) directed; the seldom-cloying cast includes Selena Gomez, Leighton Meester, and Katie Cassidy. (108 min.)

Writer: Ronald Bass, Jules Bass, Jez Butterworth, John Henry Butterworth, Kelly Bowe and Amy B Harris
