Live performance can be absolutely crucial to the success of a band. Remember how At the Drive-In's reputation boosted its exposure early on? Well, Israeli trio Monotonix has generated a similar amount of zealotry for its live act. Formed in Tel Aviv in 2005, the band eschewed the local scene (guitarist Yonatan Gat says most rock shows there "occur in front of a seated audience eating hummus") and instead took its cues from classic bands like Thin Lizzy and Led Zeppelin. The result?Drinking beer out of shoes, people lighting themselves on fire, and other types of spontaneous mayhem. The music fits perfectly, too; its 2008 Body Language EP (produced by Tim Green of the Fucking Champs) contains all the elements necessary to pump up a crowd: a live-wire, fuzz-heavy guitar; a solid back-beat; and an incredibly animated singer. You're guaranteed to be entertained. On Saturday, Mar. 28 at the Elbo Room (647 Valencia St., San Francisco) with Triclops!andLumerians. 9 p.m., $10.50, $12.
