The owner of Minnie Bell’s Soul Movement, Fernay McPherson, was born and raised in San Francisco’s Fillmore District, where she developed a love for cooking at family gatherings. She’s a culinary school grad, La Cocina alum, and one of the San Francisco Chronicle’s Rising Star Chefs of 2017. At her Emeryville Public Market stall, McPherson brings flavors of the Fillmore to the East Bay. The streamlined menu stars her signature rosemary fried chicken, served fresh out of the fryer. It’s got light, crisp skin and exceptionally juicy meat. Don’t miss the mac ’n’ cheese, made with a béchamel base plus cheddar, Fontina, and Parmesan cheeses. The braised collard greens are vegan, but still deliver plenty of flavor thanks to veggie broth and red pepper flakes. Plus, every combo comes with McPherson’s brown butter cornbread — a delightfully sweet, nutty treat that perfectly complements the menu.
