(Mini) Midweek Menu: Ramen Shop, Airport Eating, Cruelty-Free Coffee

Luke's on vacation, I'm hungover busy making a newspaper, and apparently nothing newsworthy whatsoever happens the week of Christmas (except Jesus' birth?!?), so this iteration of our food-news roundup will be short and sweet. Here we go:

1. Tablehopper reports that the hotter-than-hotly anticipated Ramen shop will, barring catastrophe, be opening tomorrow, December 27; she's also got some pictures of the space and as-yet-unseen insights into the restaurant's last-minute fine-tuning efforts.

2. Vegansaurus brings us news of Timeless Coffee, a new Piedmont Avenue Cafe that is, you guessed it, 100-percent vegan. Blogstress Courtney Flynn went nuts for the shop's Sightglass pour-over and cruelty-free peppermint brownies; see for yourself at 4252 Piedmont Ave.

3. Rosamunde's long-awaited East Bay expansion has finally set an opening date: January 9. The sausage-and-beer emporium's grand opening party will feature $1 Linden beers, "tastes from the grill," and more, per the party's Facebook event.

4. I think I speak for the entire Express community when I say we couldn't be prouder to note that our own former restaurant critic, the inimitable and wily Jesse Hirsch, made Eater National's list of the most scathing restaurant reviews of 2012 with his literary massacre of Daniel Patterson's Haven. (Eater's notable quotable: "Who could have predicted that I would walk away from Haven disappointed, dispirited, and baffled?" BURN.)

5. Elsewhere, Eater has a roundup of where to eat at the Oakland airport (spoiler alert: don't, probably.)

6. Berkeleyside Nosh just published a list of places doing special New Year's Eve dinners; our own Luke Tsai also has a short writeup of what Comal's got planned in our NYE guide.

7. Grub Street SF reports that the guys behind Gather are opening a sister restaurant in San Francisco; though the new restaurant won't share its forebear's name, it will share the Berkeley institution's sustainable-local ethos. Grub Street places the opening date at somewhere within the next couple months.

8. And for a final hit of self-promotion, please scoot on over to this week's food section, which includes a review of Elmwood's new Indonesian joint, Padi, which left our esteemed Luke "drenched in sweat," in a good way; another piece by Luke about the future of Oakland's food trucks; and a very important exposé of all the different flavors of André, by yours truly.
