the omni is a cool place that does great and interesting things, but let's be honest--artist spaces like this take part in driving that gentrification train despite their best intentions. to deny that is to be delusional. i appreciate their efforts to minimize that impact, however.

also, i'm assuming gabriela laz, owner of rise above, is a recent oakland/temescal resident--otherwise she would know that her building/that corner has been on the demo/redevelopment block for about a decade.
