Mike Seeger

When: Wed., April 23, 8 p.m. 2008
Price: $19.50, $20.50

Mike Seeger may not be as famous as his brother Pete, but he also played an important part in the folk revival of the '60s. He studied with Libba Cotton, Maybelle Carter, and Dock Boggs, and his first band, the New Lost City Ramblers, introduced a generation of young musicians to the old-time music of the Appalachian Mountains. As a solo artist he's helped keep alive dozens of traditional styles from clawhammer banjo to clogging, a percussive folk-dance style that was the precursor of tap dancing. Seeger can play almost any folk instrument, and his immense repertoire of folk songs makes every performance unique. Catch him on Wednesday, April 23 at the Freight & Salvage (1111 Addison St., Berkeley). 8 p.m., $19.50, $20.50.
