Re: “So, You Think Housing in the East Bay Is Expensive and Scarce?

Who in their right mind would want to live anywhere near Mr. Blafard regardless of his shallow economic status? It has everything to do with people who aren't educated and settle for less because to pull oneself up takes initiative, persistence, and grit....not just seeing what the government can do for them next.

Re: “Friday’s Briefing: Bill to Reinstate Rent Control Defeated; Diablo Canyon Nuclear Plant to Shut Down

Alas, the tenant orgs don't want any compromise because they believe the rental housing business should be regulated like utilities. The just cause eviction language they use is takes away most property owner rights without costly litigation, the cpi numbers they use for increases is completely out of step with actual labor/material costs along with all the increases that come with ownership, and they mistakenly equate the risk of ownership with that of tenancy. Simply stated that's just 3 of several areas tenant orgs are so out of step.

Re: “Oakland City Council: Tenant Relocation Assistance Delayed, But Moratorium on Rent Control Loophole Passes

When the likes of tenant activists push to have landlords subsidize market rent they should push very, very hard to have that subsidy or payments be a taxable deductions for the property owner and declared income by the tenant. Why isn't any of that put forth by the socialist groups such as Centro Legal de la Raza. What say you, Leah?

And of all things coming from one of the most liberal institutions in the country. Give it a rest as to what comes out of the UC System and the progressive agenda.

Re: “New Oakland Law Fails to Protect Low-Income Residents

So the owner of the hotel can't sell it because people live there? Well, is it that entity's obligation to keep things status quo instead of exercising the right of ownership to do with the property as what is most economically viable? Get government and activists out of private property where it doesn't deal with zoning and usage. Have the City buy the property then if they want to continue having it adorn the streets as a flop house. Might as well.

Re: “Activists Hasten Oakland's Slow-Moving Plans to Permit Homeless Encampments

Just bus them out of here. Take some public land out of the immediate area and set up a camp. It is the safest thing to do for those who are homeless and for those that have gainful employment etc etc etc

Re: “Tuesday’s Briefing: Rent Control Expansion Proposed for Ballot; Newsom Says State Needs to Build 3.5 Million Homes

Build all the affordable housing that is necessary with appropriate tax funds etc. BUT do not try to take advantage of mom and pop property owners that have enough problems already with managing their properties. Rent Control is income redistribution and is an economic disaster except for a few tenants and it is suspect as to how it really helps things overall.
