Re: “Oakland Police Commission Candidates Face Questions of Experience, Bias, and Conflicts

Chavez-Yoell isn't the only one who doesn't understand conflict of interest and not the only one lying to themselves, if not to the panel.

Re: “Oakland Police Hold Secret Ceremony Honoring Several Officers Accused of Mishandling Celeste Guap Sex-Crimes Investigation

To garry ovalbach and charlie pine, you're wrong. There are many Oaklanders who will not call the police because they have been abused by police in the past. And that, exactly, is the point--we cannot trust the police to be even-handed and honest. They simply are not trustworthy. Nor, now, is our mayor.

Re: “Report: Berkeley Police Six-Times More Likely to Use Force Against Black People

We should remember that every time we push back against the police, they get meaner. They're not going to admit to anything.

Re: “Oakland Police Chief Doubles-Down on Promoting the Cops Who Covered-Up the Celeste Guap Case

Add the judge to the list of corrupt officials. He could have imposed much harder penalties, since he's retiring next month and won't have to live with the consequences. Instead, he scolds the city and, basically, lets it continue its disgraceful conduct.

Re: “Oakland Police Commanders Who Buried Sex-Crime Scandal Investigation Were Later Promoted

Well, look on the bright side. Our new Department of Violence Prevention is going to hire a few new overpaid city employees who will propose a range of feel-good projects that will need still more funding. Then all of them will be ineffective against such a profoundly corrupt police and city leadership. Oh, did I say bright side? Oakland is deader and less hopeful than ever.

Re: “Oakland City Council Passes Divisive Proposal to Establish Violence Prevention Department

It seems to me that the sharks in the city's political machines are frantic to grab the increased city budget made possible by our real estate boom. A project like this useless department will produce a number of high-paying jobs with ridiculous expenses for things like crime-fighting conferences in Tahiti. Oakland has become more shameful than ever.
