Gentle, character-filled Italian light drama (original title: Pranzo di ferragosto) shows what happens when a middle-aged, financially overextended Roman named Gianni (played by writer-director Gianni di Gregorio) makes a deal with his landlord: Gianni will take in the landlord’s aging mother in exchange for back rent. Then matters begin to snowball. The social question about how a society treats its elders moves from the background to the forefront as Gianni keeps adding little old ladies to his boarding house. Worth a look. Simone Riccardini co-wrote the story with filmmaker di Gregorio (75 min.).
