Michael Chabon

When: Wed., Oct. 2, 7 p.m. 2013
Price: $24
Historically dismissed as a form of lowbrow entertainment, genre fiction has long been misunderstood. However, Berkeley author Michael Chabon has been slowly counteracting this stigma. His Pulitzer-Prize-winning 2000 novel, The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay, combined two seemingly unlikely themes: World War II and the comic-book industry. Now with his latest novel, Telegraph Avenue, which follows the lives of two East Bay couples as life’s curveballs test the strength of their friendship, Chabon once again proves his power as an author of genre fiction. In partnership with Park Day School, Chabon will discuss his literary career and life as an East Bay celebrity, husband, and father at the Julia Morgan Theatre (2640 College Ave., Berkeley). Proceeds from the event will benefit Park Day School’s academic and financial assistance programs.
