METZ

When: Mon., Nov. 5, 9 p.m. 2012
Price: $10, $12

It's been a while since post-hardcore has sounded as good as METZ's self-titled debut album. After being around for nearly five years, the Toronto trio is finally getting mainstream attention and rising fast, but the band hasn't compromised when it comes to its music (they wrote METZ  before its label Sub Pop cottoned on to what they were doing). METZ has earned comparisons to The Jesus Lizard, Nirvana, and Drive Like Jehu for its skin-melting guitar riffs, bone-rattling percussion, and guttural shrieks that all feel like being stomped into the floor of a grungy dive bar with a rat infestation. It's heavy, loud, and often fast, but also been said to have a Beatles-like quality for its melody and structure. What's more, METZ is known for insane live shows (one fan got so excited during the opening song of a set that he started ramming his head into a monitor until he bled). METZ will perform with Tiger High and One Hundred Percent at Bottom of the Hill (1233 17th St., San Francisco) on Monday, Nov. 5, $10. BottomoftheHill.com
