Re: “As People of Color Disappear from Oakland, So Do My Memories

to those who perceive this as "reverse racism", i disagree. cultural shifts where a group of equal social status replaces another, can be difficult, but is not in and of itself immoral. cultural shifts where a more favored group (esp. economically better off) replaces a less favored group, is something to be fought. if the shift in oakland was from black to new, working class immigrants from asia or latin america, that would be, well, a thing. some losses, some gains, we can live wtih it. what we have now is a shift from poor and working class (and mostly colored), to wealthy, information workers (mostly white or asian). thats a real problem. you cant have a society where the worst off are constantly shunted around to lower and lower quality areas, like blacks and native americans are done. it destroys the soul of a nation to do that. whatever is done to the least of us, is done to Him (and im not even christian).

Re: “As People of Color Disappear from Oakland, So Do My Memories

I work in oakland, and have been in all the neighborhoods. I see a lot of social fragmentation, poverty, ignorance, and historic violence. all of that is solveable. but, if its not solved, and the communities cannot come together to fight their common enemy, gentrification, then all of that culture and history, both the good and the ugly, will be swept away. its not good, but its approaching inevitable. I hope enough people wake up and fight this. no outside agency can possibly fight it if the people affected just let it happen.

Re: “Thousands Plan To Join Hands Around Oakland's Lake Merritt In Protest of Trump on Sunday

Ajax, i can only say that i am glad my mother died last year, so she didnt have to see this. she was never a sore loser, and calling any of us that proves what you are: deplorable. go ahead and change your vote for trump. stand up for what you believe. and watch your poor miserable soul disintegrate.

reading express since it began. thanks for being here. this movement is not going away, and anyone who thinks its misplaced or just a bunch of sore losers, i hope you are brave enough to admit you were wrong after these deplorable people and their false god have brought our country to near ruin. cause thats what its gonna take, now, for america to come back. we are going to hit a bottom so hard it will scare you nearly to death. many will die, which i do not want or relish. many will commit suicide. families will be torn asunder. our national security will suffer greatly. only those who take a principled stand against him and his monsters will be able to stand proud afterwards and say "i was right when everyone else was wrong".
