Re: “Erykah Badu Gets a Second Chance in Oakland Tonight

Maybe that's part of the problem, is that you "EXPECT to be ENTERTAINED".

You went to an Erykah Badu concert, not a typical pop concert or even a typical R&B, neo-soul (or whatever label they're putting on it these days) concert for that matter. I would imagine that you knew what you were getting into when you bought those tickets and I would hope that you had your expectations in check. The one reliable with Ms. Badu is that you're going to get a huge dose of her true-to-self originality.

Erykah's music isn't meant strictly as a form of amusement / entertainment, but more-so for thought, reflection, awareness. It's her social commentary. It takes whatever form the artist feels. And what you're paying for is the opportunity to witness the creation of that form take place in person.

Thank God musicians like Erykah are still out there putting it down as an honest-to-goodness ARTIST not as glitz/glam industry puppet and not just for the accumulation of bling.

Unfortunately, it also sounds like you guys had some venue problems.
