Full disclosure: My band opened for Megafauna back in September. I knew little of the Austin trio at the time, but I was blown away when they started playing. Singer/guitarist Dani Neff is a magnetic frontwoman who unleashes a fury of riffs on her Fender strat. It’s a little proggy, a bit jammy, and a tad dissonant — but in a catchy way. At base, it’s thoughtfully constructed, big, guitar-driven rock. Criminally, hardly anyone was there to witness it. But since then, Megafauna’s profile has raised considerably: The band played SXSW, released a new album (aptly titled Maximalist), and has been on a national tour since late April. Catch Neff, who was voted best electric guitarist in the Austin Chronicle’s 2012-13 Austin Music Poll, drummer Zack Humphrey, and bassist Greg Yancey at Brick and Mortar Music Hall (1710 Mission St., San Francisco) on Wednesday.
