Re: “Albany: A Seething Caldron of Lust?

I was a student shortly after the alleged abuse took place. At that time, I should point out, the middle and high schools were NOT close together. What is now Ocean View Elementary was the middle school at that point. I did not have "Sorgy" as a teacher, but was familiar with her as she was almost a school celebrity for being such an uncommonly "cool" teacher. She kept her enthusiasm up in and out of classes and kept the kids laughing so that they held an interest in the subject. To make science interesting to an 8th grader is really something special. Although I must admit that if something had been going on I would have been the last one to know, I think that we should all remember that there is always more than one side of the story. If abuse occurred, then of course it is inexcusable. Until we have heard the whole story I think we should show some compassion to Sorg and her husband "Etch", and realize that sometimes allegations are jut that. Allegations. I am not defending her or trying to push aside the victim's feelings. I tend to side with the victims in cases of alleged sexual assault because I know that it is very difficult and painful to come into the open, and all abuse victims should feel like they will have someone listening when they finally decide to speak out. However, given the dedication that Sorg has shown to her career as an educator I think we should temper our reactions until we know what is really going on.
