Re: “Whole Foods Is Against Health-Care Reform

I would argue that Mackey gets his jollies from selling overpriced organic products to gullible. It is more to the fact that Mackey realizes that quality, high value products for PEOPLE is important to a sustainable being. It is somewhat akin to putting 87 grade vs. 92 grade fuel in your high performance vehicle. People are high performance vehicles and require better quality food. Just because many people choose not to take better care of themselves and eat unhealthy foods does not make it wrong or criminal for an entity to offer an alternative.

Eating healthfully prevents many diseases commonly found today. Diseases such as high blood pressure, diabetes, some cancers, and so on. We need to provide our bodies what it requires to balance itself on an ongoing basis. When we feed/fuel ourselves with food products outside our natural system, the body works to counter the foreign matter, thus causing imbalance, sometimes sacrificing lesser organs, systems to ensure overall survival. So why not give the body a fighting chance by giving it organic, healthful, unprocessed foods? Plus, organic does not necessarily cost more. Try Whole Foods Market's 365 Organics line of products. They offer quality organic foods that are value priced.

We spend a great deal of our time and efforts in making things around us look, feel, nice. Why not spend that time and effort on making our insides better functioning. We would have increased performance in everything we do. We would be making "investments" in ourselves and realising "dividends" on a daily, life-long basis. It is a quality of life that is important, not just survival. Is that not what we have evolved to become: better realised humans? We must all take responsibility for our health, eh?

As a competitive athlete, licensed road cyclist under the United States Cycling Federation-USCF, competing in the Northern California Nevada Cycling Association-NCNCA, I find it highly beneficial to eat quality foods to perform at the high levels of competition on a weekly basis. Not only do I benefit from a physical performance basis, but on a preventative health level, I maintain greater health on a moment by moment, daily basis, I do not suffer headaches, cholesterol, colds or any of the maladies of the modern world.--Max R.
