Re: “Opinion: Getting the Shaft From Schaaf

I support their right to strike and use the full extent of their power to get a better working contract. But at the same time, when I see that many of the city workers complaining about their "unfair wages" are making literally twice my income, this whole affair starts to seem a little less noble and a little more selfish.

Re: “What East Bay Trivia Nights Say About Our Collective Knowledge (or Lack Thereof) of Non-White History and Culture

I think it might just be easier at this point to make a list of what's NOT racist.

Re: “Oakland Metro Operahouse Claims Harassment by a Neighbor, Who Says the Music Venue is Breaking the Law

Shame on that Xavier guy as well, an absolute traitor and sell-out of the highest caliber. How can you be surprised that your scene friends have ostracized you when you've betrayed them in the most literal way possible? Shame that the charlatan Paley and his dirty money have corrupted another former member of Oakland's REAL creative community.

Re: “Oakland Metro Operahouse Claims Harassment by a Neighbor, Who Says the Music Venue is Breaking the Law

Brad Paley: yet another douchey money mogul with an over-inflated ego that thinks he can buy his way to "cool", and deserves to steamroll over any of the pesky Little People that get in the way of his Genius Vision. How many of these insufferable guys are there in the Bay Area, trying to ruin the fun for the rest of us? It never ends!

His vision for those knockoff TED talk "lecture parties" sound like a smug nightmare, I can only imagine how arrogant and self-congratulatory the crowd there might be! Paley, my boy, don't you know there's already a great venue for rich, pompous, self-described "Intellectuals" to jerk each other off over how Smart and Important they are? It's called San Francisco! Kindly fuck off to the other side of the Bay and leave our Metro alone.

Re: “City of Albany Expands Ban on Marijuana Businesses, Outdoor Growing

Their loss! The surrounding cities thank you for the additional tax dollars.

Re: “Blacklisted: How The Oakland Police Department Discriminates Against Rappers and Music Venues

It sucks, but when you hear of a shooting at a music show around here, it's almost always a rap show. Not blaming the music, not blaming the artists, and not supporting the removal of rap shows and venues from the Town. But this extra police scrutiny doesn't come out of nowhere, and advocates need to stop pretending that it does.

Re: “If Oakland Cracks Down On Underground Warehouses, It Will Snuff Out The City’s DIY Soul

To all the people in these comments so callously disparaging the artists, the dead, the warehouse spaces, the partiers, etc as being immature children scared of the "Real World":

Just because you yourself don't understand the value of local art and art spaces, it doesn't mean it's not meaningful and important.

Think of your favorite musician. They could have started their career in an art-house just like Ghostship or the dozens of others here in the Town, and squares just like you probably mocked them endlessly: "Stop pursuing this childish music stuff and get a real job!" Thank god they didn't listen.

Don't drag us all down to your level of banality. Go back to the suburbs if you want a predictable, "sensible" lifestyle where everyone has a "grown-up" job, a cubicle, a white picket fence, a two-car garage, a nice big TV to watch the football game. You keep working on the GDP, we'll keep making music and art that brings people joy. Both are important.
