Re: “Oakland Metro Operahouse Claims Harassment by a Neighbor, Who Says the Music Venue is Breaking the Law

DIVERSITY means people with different points of view, backgrounds, lives etc. Unfortunately, as evident in Nat's comment, in Oakland it seems to means be like me, act like me, do what I do or shut heck up hater. Sucks so many people look at this situation as good vs evil instead of that everyone is living in the grey area and needs to work this out. I love the Metro, but they're in the wrong, too.

Re: “Oakland Metro Operahouse Claims Harassment by a Neighbor, Who Says the Music Venue is Breaking the Law

I love the Metro. I have friends who've done shows there... but everyone in this story is fibbing. Oakland is a rude place with a lot of bullies that then hide behind some sad "Oh, me, I'm so put upon(sniffle)" story, because they're also highly skilled manipulators. So Oakland is just a live and let live city? Well, only if you're the type of person that can function inside a running clothes dryer -for the rest of us it's discomfort, inconvenience and ear plugs. The Metro is way too loud, the neighbor is being way too aggressive and Ben Delaney might be getting a summons for that libelous statement. Odd that after all the recent examples of city inspectors failing to see violations (REPORTED IN THIS VERY BLOG), EBX would then cite a city inspector not finding a violation as back-up for the Metro's claims. City inspectors rarely find a violation when reported by a citizen. They don't want the hassle of it all as evident in that I found *1* citation issued in 2014 for a citizen reported building code violation. Y'all should read the reports... it's really sad seeing some grandmother that figures out how to make a legit complaint online about a bully neighbor and then read the city inspector concluded "no violation found". OMG, their findings mean nothing. Anyway, if you love polemics more than facts or solutions -you're reading the right blog. I hope all these fibbers wipe off the crocodile tears and find real solutions to coexist.

Re: “Picán Restaurant in Uptown Oakland Closing ... For Now

EBX is where the narrative goes to thrive, such story tellers. Pican was the gentrification they wanted to see. The restaurant cost around $1.8m to build and it's always been expensive, from day one. I ate there in 2009 and thought the cost was too high, similar to a high quality place in SF but in a cheaper desolate part of Oakland. Oakland businesses are dieing because Oakland (the City and its political class) only know how to operate in an idealistic vacuum AND milk a good thing until it's dead. It's been doing the same thing for 40+ years with the exact same results. We're only thriving because regional pressure has become so incredibly enormous.

Re: “Blacklisted: How The Oakland Police Department Discriminates Against Rappers and Music Venues

How many people have gotten into a scuffle at the Fox or Paramount or New Parish, gone to their car to retrieve a gun and then ended up shoot innocent people while trying to kill the person they fought with??? This is a complex issue.

Re: “Oakland's Toxic Lead Contamination Isn't in the Water. It's in the Buildings and Dirt, and It's Bad.

Have facts ever mattered to EBX? The comparisons to Flint is false and unethical. Tens of thousands of kids were tested in Flint... in Oakland ~500. Those samples are not comparable. Yes, the fact that Fruitvale is a hot spot matters, but Oakland as a whole is not like Flint. Reuters didn't even mention Oakland in its report -not once. While ~5% of nearly *all* children in Flint had elevated levels, several Flint zip codes (where thousands of kids were tested) showed +8% and +10% of children with high lead levels! In just one zip code in Flint 8,000 children were tested (Fruitvale ~500) and over 10% of those Flint children had elevated lead levels! That is not the case in Oakland. If Darwin had bothered to mull over the data he'd have noticed that more kids tested with elevated lead levels in SF's Southeast districts than did in Oakland. But please, please drag the spotlight away from deserving communities to sell ads or whatever.

Re: “Lawyers Guild Decries Oakland Police's 'Brutal' Tactics Against Trump Protesters

Cat, the vast majority of Oaklanders are with you in your efforts, but disgusted by your passive attitude about collateral damage. I've seen anarchists injury innocent people. It's hard to reconcile empathy for the oppressed while making victims of innocent residents, business owners and their employees. There is a tsunami of voices building that wants the obstruction of downtown streets and destruction of property to come to an end. It's been going on for over SIX years. OPD reported over 180 protest events and record breaking overtime pay in 2015. Oaklanders overwhelmingly supported progressive measures and political leaders in our most recent election -we should not be injuring our local community.
