Matt Clark Quartet

When: Sat., Jan. 23, 8 p.m. 2010
Price: $15

It takes major dexterity to plough through the B section of Chick Corea's "Spain," especially when you're playing at a fast tempo. Matt Clark did it a couple years ago at the Red Poppy Arthouse, when he helped anchor the rhythm section for Jaz Sawyer's Pursuers. But local pianist Matt Clark isn't just known for tackling tunes at a fast clip. He's also an incredibly creative musician who dabbles in many different genres. When he's not playing straight-ahead, Clark often veers Latin -- as he did while serving as musical director for Joe Orrach's one-man show, In My Corner (which played at OaklandSchool of the Arts last year). Clark will perform this Saturday (Jan. 23) at the Jazzschool(2087 Addison St., Berkeley) with a line-up of phenomenal talent, including trumpeter Mike Olmos, bassist Andrew Emer, and drummer Darrell Green. 8 p.m. $15 Jazzschool.com
