Re: “The Father of Proposition 8

Prop. 8 passed by a good-sized margin. For that matter, so did Prop. 22. People aren't willing to see the whole idea of marriage and family change. Overwhelmingly, minorities didn't buy into the issue as one of civil rights.

But apparently this author can't get passed the fact that ordinary, average Californians refused to accept the 'bigot' label for loving traditional family and passed Prop 8 anyway, despite the bullying tactics of its opponents.

Instead, Thomson needs to lash out at one fairly gentle bishop. He is a simple man, steadily leading his flock, who knows how to get people moving- by living and preaching the Truth. What irritates Thomson more- Bp. Cordileone's savvy persistence, or the millions of Californians who support traditional marriage?

As a San Diegan, I can vouch that Oakland Catholics have a tireless defender of authentic human rights at the helm. Bp. Cordileone will continue with his track record of working for lots of social justice issues. What's more, he has a solid grasp of Catholic identity and will work to restore it.

And one lousy, petulant attempt of a smear job won't stop him.
