Marley's Ghost

When: Fri., Feb. 5, 8 p.m. 2010
Price: $18.50-$19.50

It's easy to take Bay Area fixtures Marley's Ghost for granted, seeing as the five-man outfit has been kicking around for more than twenty years, playing music that generously cherry-picks ingredients from a wide range of roots music that includes bluegrass, gospel, country, English folk, and even hints of reggae. So renowned are these guys that Van Dyke Parks came aboard to produce and play piano, keys, and marimba on 2006's Spooky, whose cover art was provided by counterculture illustrator R. Crumb. For its forthcoming album, Ghost Town, Marley's Ghost headed out to Nashville to record with legendary songwriter/producer Cowboy Jack Clement. And given the fact that Marley's Ghost isn't averse to throwing eclectic into the mix, be it Scottish bagpipes or bouzouki, expect the band to be weaving plenty of its world music sensibilities into its live set at Freight & Salvage (2020 Addison St., Berkeley) on Friday, Feb. 5. 8 p.m., $18.50-$19.50.
